# 2. Installing the MAP server

This chapter provides instructions for downloading the MAP server installation file and deploying the MAP service on a Windows Server.

The following topics are included:

## 2.1. Installation process

The following diagram illustrates the process for installing the MAP server.

The installation is supplied as an MSI file, ready for deployment on a Windows Server.

Note

The installer is now only available in 64-bit. However, PxM still supports existing 32-bit MAP server configurations.

To download the latest MAP server installation file, for use with PxM 5.4.0 or above:

1. Go to the PxM MAP Server Installer download page section of the Software Releases page.

2. From the table, download the installation file and copy to the Windows Server that will host the MAP server.

Note

To download a MAP server installation file for versions of PxM earlier than 5.4.0, contact Osirium Support.

Note

Further details on MAP server compatibility with earlier versions of PxM can be found on the PxM versions and MAP installer compatibility table.

## 2.3. Installation procedure

The following steps guide you through deploying a MAP server on a Windows Server:

1. Within the Windows Server, run the MAP server installation file. The MAP Server Setup window appears.

2. Click Next.

4. Click Next.

5. Within the Destination Folder window, accept the default folder location or specify a location of your choice.

6. Click Next.

7. Within the Enter your shared secret window, specify a shared secret. We suggest noting the shared secret, because it will be required later, when adding the MAP server to PxM through the Web Management Interface.

Note

The same shared secret can be used for multiple MAP server installations.

8. Click Next.

9. If you require configuring the MAP server to send logs to a syslog server:

• Within the Add Logging Server window, select Setup Log Server?.

Note

We recommend using your PxM Virtual Appliance as the Syslog server.

Note

If you use your PxM Virtual Appliance as your syslog server then you can view syslog messages in the Web Management Interface. See Logs.

10. Click Next.

11. Within the Ready to install MAP Server window, click Install. The installation process begins.

12. Within the Completed the MAP server Setup Wizard window, click Finish.

Note

The MAP server service log file will be stored in the following location:

C:\Windows\Logs\MapServer\service.log

13. Within the MAP Server Setup window, click Yes to restart your system.

Note

Wait until the system restarts before continuing.

## 2.4. Installing using command line parameters

If you prefer to install the PxM MAP Server MSI package using command line parameters (or using automated deployment technologies) then the following command line parameters will help you:

The PxM MAP Server MSI package can be installed at the command line (or using automated deployment technologies) using the following parameters:

Parameter Example Description
INSTALLFOLDER C:Program Files (x86)Osirium PxM MAP Server The directory to install the PxM MAP Server software to.
SHARED_SECRET dsfg87dfg7a54sdg8sdf57dsghfdgh The shared secret to be used between the PxM Platform and the MAP server.
USE_LOG_SERVER 1 Turns on remote logging via syslog.
LOG_SERVER_ADDRESS 1.2.3.4 Target server for remote logging syslog. This is typically a PxM Virtual Appliance.
LOG_SERVER_PORT 514 Target server syslog port. The default for this is UDP 514.

These parameters can be used as follows:

 1 Osirium_PxM_MAP_Server_v6.4.1.2_x64.msi /q /norestart /l C:\install.log INSTALLFOLDER="C:\Program Files\Osirium PxM MAP Server\" SHARED_SECRET=abc123 USE_LOG_SERVER=1 LOG_SERVER_ADDRESS=1.2.3.4 LOG_SERVER_PORT=514

Note

Although the /norestart switch has been used here, the PxM MAP Server does need a reboot to properly complete the install.

## 2.5. Next steps

After the MAP Server has been installed you can add it using the Web Management Interface so it can be used by the PxM Platform. To get started, login to the Web Management Interface and complete the following steps:

• Add the MAP server and create MAP server groups. See MAP servers.
• Provision a device using a device template compatible with MAP server. See Adding a device.
• Create a profile to give users access to the device tool through the PxM Client. See Profiles.
