Installation paths for the PxM Virtual Appliance

This section covers:

Installation procedure

The installation procedure you follow will differ depending on whether you want to implement a standalone PxM Virtual Appliance or create a cluster of PxM Virtual Appliances.

Select the appropriate heading below to follow the correct steps for your installation requirements. Once the installation steps have been completed you will have access to the Web Management Interface where you can start to manage and administer your privilege access to devices.

Note

The first PxM Virtual Appliance will automatically be recognised as the leader node whether you intend to continue as a standalone or cluster. If you are creating a cluster then the leader node will provide the cluster joining bundle to enable all subsequent PxM Virtual Appliances to join the cluster as follower nodes.

Steps for installing a standalone PxM Virtual Appliance

You will need to complete the following steps in order to deploy a standalone PxM Virtual Appliance. Click on the links in order to navigate to the relevant instructions for each step required to complete the installation and configuration of your standalone PxM Virtual Appliance.

  1. Deploying the PxM Virtual Appliance
The first step will be to deploy the PxM Virtual Appliance software package into your infrastructure.
  2. Configuration of the standalone PxM Virtual Appliance
The next step will be to run through the system configuration setup of the PxM Virtual Appliance software.
  3. Finalise setup
The last step required to complete the installation and to start using the PxM Platform is to upload a valid licence. This is done by logging onto the Web Management Interface which can be accessed through the PxM UI or PxM Client.

This completes the installation of the PxM Virtual Appliance and allows you to start managing and administering your PxM Platform.

Steps for installing your PxM Virtual Appliances as a cluster

You will need to complete the following steps to deploy PxM Virtual Appliances to operate as a cluster. Click on the links in order to navigate to the relevant instructions for each step required to complete the installation, configuration and clustering of your PxM Virtual Appliances.

Deploying a cluster leader node

  1. Deploying the PxM Virtual Appliance
The first step will be to deploy the PxM Virtual Appliance software package into your infrastructure.
  2. Configuration of the leader node

You are now ready to add a follower node to your cluster.

Deploying and joining a follower node to your cluster

  1. Deploying the PxM Virtual Appliance
Deploy another PxM Virtual Appliance software package into your infrastructure.
  2. Configuration of a cluster follower node
The next step will be to run through the system configuration setup of the follower PxM Virtual Appliance software.
  3. Finalise setup
The last step required to complete the installation and to start using the PxM Platform is to upload a valid licence. This is done by logging onto the Web Management Interface which can be accessed through the PxM UI or PxM Client.
  4. Repeat the above steps for each follower node you want to add to your cluster.

Once you have finished adding your follower nodes you will need to log onto each of the PxM Virtual Appliances (leader and followers) using the PxM UI, open the Web Management Interface and configure any system settings and configuration on both the leader and follower nodes.

Note

To manage and administer your privilege access to devices you should be logged onto the Web Management Interface of the cluster leader.
