This chapter provides an overview of the necessary prerequisites to complete before restoring your PxM Virtual Appliance.
This guide describes how to manually backup and restore your PxM Virtual Appliance for recovery purposes or upgrading to release version 6.0.0 or above.
Periodically backing up your PxM Virtual Appliance is recommended for recovery in the event of a failure. Your backup and restore strategy should be based on your business requirements.
Alternatively, you can set up a backup and restore method through the PxM Platform Mesh process, which allows you to automatically backup your PxM Virtual Appliance on a remote PxM server. For details, see PxM Virtual Appliance restore instructions using a Mesh backup.
1.1. Upgrade paths
The following diagram and table displays the upgrade paths to follow depending on the PxM version you currently use:

To upgrade from a version earlier than 5.0.x, contact Osirium Support.
To upgrade to the latest version of PxM, you must successively upgrade from version 5.0.x to 5.2.x and 5.4.x. From v5.4.x, you must create a backup of your PxM Virtual Appliance and then restore the backup on a new PxM Virtual Appliance before upgrading to v6.0.x.
