Upgrading in a vSphere on-prem Environment

Warning

Before starting your upgrade make sure that all prerequisites have been met.

Upgrade steps

The following steps walk you through upgrading the EPM Server within your VMWare vSphere infrastructure:

  1. Within VMware vSphere upload the EPM Server ISO file into the same storage location as the other files belonging to the virtual appliance you are upgrading.

    Note

Ensure you retain the ISO file version number in the filename for future reference and to easily identify what version is running.

  2. Right-click the appliance to be upgraded and select Power -> Power Off.
    Edit Settings

  3. Wait for the EPM Server to shut down, then right-click the appliance and select Edit Settings.
    Edit Settings

  4. Toggle CD/DVD drive 1, look for CD/DVD Media and click the BROWSE... button.

    Edit Settings Menu

  5. Within the Select File window, select the EPM Server ISO upgrade file from the datastore.

  6. Click OK.

  7. Within the Edit Settings window, click OK to save the changes.

  8. Right-click the virtual appliance and select Power -> Power On. The EPM Server will now boot and apply the updates.

  9. Wait while the configuration has been applied and the virtual appliance is rebooted. The upgrade is now complete.

  10. Check the version number in the Configuration tab of the EPM Management Interface to confirm your upgrade.

  11. Take a VM level backup of the upgraded EPM Server.

Next steps

Once the EPM Server has been successfully upgraded, the EPM Client should be upgraded.

If the client update feature has been enabled then the user will get a prompt to upgrade the PAM Client when they next attempt to elevate an application or gain temporary admin access.

Note

The Client Updating setting can be found on the Management Interface > Configuration > EPM Client page.

Otherwise, update the EPM Client as per your preferred method.
